Coronavirus (COVID-19) has impacted every aspect of life as we know it. With most schools closed over the next couple of months, parents and teachers will need ways for kids to learn online. The Hero School will be providing useful information on homeschooling, links to sites with online teaching resources, up-to-date reports on what is happening, and above all, tips we can all follow to keep our heads high with Smiles on our faces!
Message from Captain Dave & the Jr. Heroes: “As we all struggle through these times, remember to SMILE, practice social distancing, exercise good hygiene, and stay safe!”
Take a moment to ask, “What Would a Hero Do?”

Fire Captain Dave Merino’s whimsical haikus and colorful illustrations transform fear into fun, helping children learn about the world’s dangers with smiles on their faces. Detailed but easy-to-read explanations follow the haikus, teaching kids everything they need to know to stay safe from hazards like electricity, water, slippery surfaces, and sharp objects. At the heart of it all is Captain Dave’s simple message: Why do we say these things? Because YOU are IMPORTANT and we love you!
Free to Low-cost Homeschooling
As many schools transfer students to online learning, the programs below can be used as either supplements to the school curriculum or as standalone homeschooling programs. We are not affiliated with any of these programs; we are just offering help to guide parents through this difficult transition. Remember that there are many options to help your children learn at home, so don’t be discouraged if the first one you try isn’t right for you. If you know of additional high-quality programs or would like to have your own homeschooling program added to our list, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
